5. The “Sin” of Technical Proficiency

“The artist was flaunting her technical proficiency.” That sort of comment is all too common in discussions and reviews of pottery exhibitions. It reflects a sense of inadequacy on the part of the speaker, and it’s something that no potter should take seriously. Potters acquire and hone the skills of pottery making for the very purpose of deploying those skills visibly. If you’ve got it, flaunt it. And the world will be a better place.
