The practice of urging and even requiring potters to be on hand for their gallery exhibitions defies logic and market principles of fair play. Dealers don’t turn up at the potters’ kilns to chop firewood. Yet they expect the potters to turn up at their galleries to help with the work of selling pottery. That being the case, we should at least expect the galleries to foot the bill for the potters’ travel and lodging. In the meantime, let’s let the potters concentrate on making pottery.
